Weston committee opposes Park Road right-turn lane in Riverside Labs design

WESTON — December 8, 2021 — Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee pushes back on Riverside Labs Park Road redesign. Chair Jay Doyle and member Andrew Chase told the development team Wednesday they oppose a proposed northbound right-turn lane onto the Mass Pike, calling it a pedestrian hazard where crossers would be hidden between stopped and through traffic. Engineer Lorenzo Dantas said the life-sciences project would generate roughly 214 inbound and 260 outbound trips in the peak hour — comparable to the prior office park. The committee asked for consistent 11-foot lanes, hardened curb separation for the two-way bike facility instead of flexible bollards, a shortened left-turn pocket at the I-90 maintenance entrance, and a westward shift of Park Road under the railroad bridge to improve Recreation Road sight lines. In a separate 4-0 vote, the committee adopted a policy stating it will not review resident traffic-mirror requests, calling it "self-preservation."
