Weston ZBA Approves Demo-Rebuild on Historic Meadowbrook Road Property

WESTON — April 11, 2023 — Weston ZBA clears demolition of Windsor estate-linked home, delays historic addition case. The three-member Zoning Board of Appeals, chaired by Acting Chair Steven LaRock and including members Wendy Kaplan-Armor and Laura Mintz, voted 3-0 at its April 11 meeting to grant a special permit allowing Carol and Paul Mustone to demolish their 5,826-square-foot home at 283 Meadowbrook Road and replace it with a 5,049-square-foot flat-roofed house, removing two existing nonconforming structures in the process. Former Historical Commission member Alicia Primer testified that the house is one of only two surviving structures from the Windsor estate and had been designated for preferred preservation, warning the board that approving new construction on nonconforming lots "opens the floodgates." The board acknowledged the loss but noted that a one-year demolition delay imposed by the Historical Commission had already elapsed without a preservation agreement. A second matter — a 40-square-foot kitchen addition to the circa-1757 two-family house at 88 North Road, owned by Alan Day and Nancy Cuso — was continued to April 25 at 6:45 p.m. after the board found a sealed site plan and stamped gross floor area calculations were still missing from the application file.
