Weston Water Tank Group Settles on 2.84 Million Gallons of Active Storage

WESTON — June 4, 2025 — Weston's water tank working group agreed on 2.84 million gallons of active storage for three planned tank replacements. Select Board Chair Lisa Revers and members Tom Palmer and John McDonald reached consensus Wednesday on the figure, which sits 7 percent above current calculated need and below a high-end scenario of 3.07 million gallons that would account for full Chapter 40B and Section 3A housing build-out. Owner's project manager Matt Connors of Weston and Sampson and engineer Amy Coppers of Wright Pierce both recommended the 2.84 million gallon figure after analysis of low, medium, and high population growth scenarios; the town planner had suggested 2.95 million gallons. Cat Rock and Doublet Hill are each slated for 750,000-gallon composite elevated tanks, with Payne's Hill receiving a custom ground-level steel tank holding the balance. A 30 percent design submittal is targeted within weeks, and an expanded Environmental Notification Form to MEPA is expected as soon as land appraisals — due within two weeks — are folded into the filing. The Article 97 permitting contract now stands at $668,785 through four amendments; a second tank design contract totals $649,300.
