Weston Unified Plan Committee shifts interim deadlines, sets July 15 in-person meeting

WESTON — June 25, 2025 — Weston's Unified Plan Committee revised its working timeline and set a July 15 hybrid meeting as the next session. The committee, which is working with Barrett Planning Group on a non-binding comprehensive town plan covering land use, services, capital projects, and governance, agreed informally to push its first deliverable — identifying three to five key issues per subcommittee — from the end of June to the end of July, with measurable goals now targeted for the end of September and specific action items by the end of November. Member Danielle reported her resources subcommittee met with library trustees and Council on Aging representatives, surfacing shared concerns about rail trail access, uneven sidewalks, and demand for expanded senior programming. Member Marga said the planning subcommittee has completed a strengths-weaknesses-opportunities-threats analysis of circulation issues and is preparing a condensed issues-and-opportunities chart. Michael, a former member of the now-dismissed Town Governance Study Committee, said that group would be willing to share compiled research with the UPC, with Town Moderator Rip Hastings also identified as a resource on governance questions. Two at-large vacancies remain unfilled — applicants Diana Chaplin and Melanie Larson are under review by a selection panel including Select Board member Lisa Rivers and Planning Board representative Leslie — and a School Committee seat on the UPC has not yet been filled.
