Weston Unified Plan Committee Closes Municipal Services Document, Debates Demographic Data

WESTON — April 27, 2026 — Weston Unified Plan Committee finalizes one planning document and debates demographic projections for another. The committee, chaired by Danielle Black, declared its Municipal Services and Facilities issues-and-opportunities document complete at its April 27 hybrid meeting and spent most of the session reviewing the Land Use document drafted by member Robert Scott. Members approved edits removing language that implied single-family housing produces a higher quality of life, corrected a 40B project address from 103 to 104 Boston Post Road, and agreed to add language on the town's diminishing stock of municipally owned land — an issue highlighted by the recent fire station siting struggle. Town Planner Imai Aiu told the committee that the Select Board is pursuing a Weston-specific demographic study but that results are at least six months away, beyond the plan's early-fall completion target; the committee agreed not to wait, directing Aiu to arrange a presentation from Metropolitan Area Planning Council experts so members could settle which projections — Donahue Institute, MAPC, or a combination — will serve as the plan's demographic foundation. Town Moderator Rip Hastings noted that the 1965 plan's population forecasts, though too high, drove the aggressive conservation land acquisition of the 1960s and 1970s, while today 40B projects leave the town with "less control over our future." The committee's next meeting is set for Monday, May 11, at 4 p.m., when a revised Housing document will be ready for full review.
