Weston Traffic Panel Votes to Advance Park Road Bike and Pedestrian Project
WESTON — May 17, 2023 — Weston's Traffic and Sidewalk Committee voted unanimously to advance a Park Road bicycle and pedestrian improvement project to the Select Board while deferring a formal recommendation on a dangerous Route 20 intersection. The committee signaled support for Alternative 2A — a single consolidated signalized intersection at Route 20, Highland Street, and Boston Post Road — rejecting both a one-way reconfiguration and a two-lane roundabout as inferior on safety and community-fit grounds. A consultant study for BHB Engineers documented an 85 percent drop in daily traffic on Love Lane, from 1,840 vehicles in 2019 to 270 in November 2022, following the implementation of turn restrictions, though members called for additional counts on alternate cut-through roads before making the pilot permanent. The committee also reviewed a roughly $60,000 pedestrian safety upgrade proposal at the Route 117 and Viles Street crossing, where reduced sight distances contributed to a December 2022 accident. The next meeting is set for June 14.
