Weston Traffic and Sidewalk Committee endorses Route 30 pre-25 design for Select Board

WESTON — August 19, 2020 — Weston committee advances Route 30 pre-25 design to Select Board. The Traffic and Sidewalk Committee voted 4-0 Aug. 19 to recommend Howard Stein Hudson's pre-25 percent design for the 3.7-mile Route 30 reconstruction, sending the plans to the Select Board ahead of a MassDOT review the consultants said would take at least 120 days. Designer Bridget Meyer detailed roughly half a dozen new pedestrian crossings — including rapid rectangular flashing beacons at Pine and Highland streets, signalized crossings at Winter and Oak streets, a third leg at Wellesley Street and a hybrid pedestrian/fire-vehicle signal at Ash Street — plus a south-side shared-use asphalt path. Howard Stein Hudson's Mark Gravallese called the submission "a major milestone" but said construction is "five to ten years out." Chair Jay Doyle praised the DPW and design team for "incorporating and addressing the input that's been received." The committee meets again Sept. 16.
