Weston Select Board taps Habitat for six affordable units on Wellesley Street

WESTON — November 10, 2020 — Weston Select Board taps Habitat for Humanity to build six affordable units at 0 Wellesley Street. The Affordable Housing Trust selected Habitat as sole respondent to its summer RFP and will grant the nonprofit $450,000 — $75,000 per unit — from existing Community Preservation Act homeownership funds, with the roughly three-acre parcel transferred for a nominal amount. Trust representative Sarah Radigan said the project will be 100 percent permanently deed-restricted, structured as a condominium, and run as a friendly 40B Local Initiative Project. Select Board member Harvey, who sits on the trust, said the structure means "the town doesn't have to oversee the building of it. It's not prevailing wage. We're not taking any risk there." The board separately adopted the updated Hazard Mitigation Plan and authorized Weston Forest and Trail to build the Marian Case Nature Classroom in the Case Estates pine woods.
