Weston Select Board sets January special election on board expansion to five members

WESTON — October 14, 2025 — Weston Select Board sets January 13 special election on ballot question to expand board from three to five members. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to call the election under Chapter 38 of the Acts of 2025, which Governor Healey recently signed into law. Town Counsel Lauren Goldberg explained that if voters approve the measure, two additional seats will appear on the April 2026 annual town election ballot, with the top two finishers receiving three-year terms and the third receiving a two-year term. Chair Lise N. Revers had pushed for a December date to maximize resident turnout, but Town Clerk Janet Murphy warned of staffing difficulties around the holidays; the board settled on January 13. Murphy cautioned that early-voting-by-mail applications reset by calendar year, meaning residents who signed up for mail ballots in 2025 must reapply. In a joint vote with the School Committee, the board also unanimously appointed architect David Fixler — a 33-year Weston resident who teaches at Harvard Graduate School of Design — to the Permanent Building Committee through June 30, 2027, to fill the seat vacated by the death of Neil Levitt.
