Weston Select Board Renews Housing Office Deal, Defers Depot Funding Decision

WESTON -- July 22, 2025, Weston Select Board renews regional housing office agreement and splits on historic depot funding. The board unanimously approved the fiscal year 2026 amendment to its Inter-Municipal Agreement with the Regional Housing Services Office, a ten-community shared housing services consortium, at its July 22 meeting. RHSO Director Liz Rust told the board Weston's cost for FY26 rises by approximately $6,419 over the prior year to account for the addition of a co-director. The board also directed Town Manager Leon Gamond to draft a charge for a Housing Production Plan steering committee, with work to begin after fall Town Meeting; an update to the expiring HPP has been estimated at roughly $75,000 and the town currently holds no Chapter 40B safe harbor. A request by the Friends of the Weston Depot to redirect $18,750 in unspent 2022 town appropriations toward stabilization of the 55 Church Street depot drew resistance from multiple board members, with Member Alfred L. Aydelott stating flatly he would not support the funding; the group said it will pursue a citizens' petition or CPA application at the October Town Meeting regardless.
