Weston Select Board postpones town meeting and election to September

WESTON — May 26, 2020 — Weston Select Board pushes town election and town meeting to September amid COVID uncertainty. The board signaled a non-binding intention to hold the annual election Saturday, Sept. 12, and town meeting Monday, Sept. 14, with member Harvey Boshart recusing because he is a candidate. Member Laurie said turnout and safety both pointed to the fall: "We know right now is a bad time and we are hopeful that it will get better." Recreation Director Chris Fitzgerald told the board the enterprise fund faces a fiscal 2020 deficit of roughly $200,000 — up to $400,000 if Memorial Pool and summer camps do not open — and projected fiscal 2021 deficits ranging from $42,000 to $160,000 depending on which programs run. Town Manager Leon Gaumond Jr. said Weston has been allocated nearly $1.1 million in federal CARES Act funds, with applications due June 8 or 9. The board approved a consent agenda of gifts and adjourned.
