Conservation Commission bans dogs, bikes at Wellington Farm

WESTON — May 26, 2020 — Weston Conservation Commission bans dogs and bikes at Wellington Farm, opens property to fall deer hunting. The commission voted 5-0-1 Tuesday, with member Josh Feinblum recused as an abutter and Ellen Freeman Roth abstaining, to formally prohibit dogs and bicycles on the newly acquired agricultural property while preserving horseback access and authorizing one or two hunters this fall. Stacey Daly of Waltham Fields Community Farm, the incoming licensee, said safety around electric fencing and tractor operation drove the request: "If there's a dog that runs behind them, or a child or anything like that, we just want to make sure that we are advocating for the best possible rules forward." Leashed dogs will be permitted only on a short connector trail between Glen Road and the aqueduct. The commission also unanimously approved a Tree Advisory Group planting at Nonesuch Brook and adopted a new tiered encroachment policy escalating from educational letters to formal warnings.
