Weston Select Board opens December special town meeting warrant, advances 3A zoning plan

WESTON — September 10, 2024 — Weston Select Board advances three-tier MBTA zoning compliance plan ahead of December special town meeting. The Planning Board presented a framework that would rezone roughly 50 buildable acres near Kendall Green and Route 128 to allow up to 763 multifamily units by right — a potential 18 percent increase in total housing units — with a vote set for the December 3 special town meeting, whose warrant the board unanimously opened through October 11. The board also voted unanimously to refer a water tank height zoning bylaw to the Planning Board for a public hearing, part of a multi-year effort to replace aging tanks. On water rates, Town Manager Leon Gomond outlined a plan targeting a roughly 10 percent overall revenue increase — down from about 20 percent in each of the prior three years — by raising fixed meter charges, which currently represent only 5 percent of water revenues against roughly 40 percent fixed costs. The board unanimously appointed Heidi Price, a graphic designer and event planner, to the Weston Cultural Council through June 30, 2027. A proposed hybrid ADU bylaw, required under the state's Affordable Homes Act or else a self-enacting state version takes effect, remains under development with town counsel reviewing the legality of owner-occupancy and anti-condominiumization provisions.
