Weston Select Board funds 3A fiscal study, refers zoning to Planning Board

WESTON — October 8, 2024 — Weston Select Board funds $20,000 3A fiscal study, keeps zoning vote on December warrant. The board unanimously approved an up-to-$20,000 RKG fiscal impact analysis and referred both the MBTA Communities and accessory dwelling unit bylaws to the Planning Board for hearings ahead of December 3 Town Meeting. Member Lori Bent argued for removing 3A from the warrant, citing Monday's SJC arguments in the Milton case and warning that 750 new units atop roughly 500 pending 40B units would push Weston's rental share past 30 percent — "five pockets of luxury rental housing that will be completely separate from our town." Chair Tom Palmer said withholding the article would itself violate the statute: "Our job is to educate the town." The board also heard that Town Hall electrification options carry 300-to-325-year paybacks and that the Fire Station Working Group has narrowed primary-station candidates to five sites including the middle school baseball field.
