Weston Select Board endorses Habitat housing, queues tank and tree votes for May

WESTON — January 11, 2022 — Weston Select Board signs off on six-unit Habitat project, lines up water tank and tree bylaw articles for May. The board unanimously authorized its chair to sign the Local Initiative Program application for Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston's three-duplex, six-unit affordable homeownership project on Wellesley Street, targeted for occupancy in April 2024 for households at 50 to 80 percent of area median income. In a three-hour joint session with the Planning Board, Wright Pierce engineer Rob Williams said the town's three storage tanks — Payne's Hill, Cat Rock and Doublet Hill, the oldest dating to 1931 — have "essentially zero" active storage and leave more than 400 homes with substandard pressure; Payne's Hill replacement alone is pegged at $4.6 million. Select Board member Lori Bent presented an October tree survey of 460 residents showing 61 percent support for regulating tree removal at new construction. Resident Scott King previewed a citizen petition seeking roughly $5 million over three years to extend water mains and hydrants to about 100 unserved homes after a North Conant Road fire.
