WESTON — March 17, 2020 — Weston Select Board declares local emergency and pulls April 6 special town meeting. The three-member board, meeting by Zoom under the governor's open-meeting-law suspension, voted unanimously by roll call to declare a local state of emergency and to rescind the previously scheduled April 6 special town meeting after staff confirmed the warrant had not yet been physically posted under the town bylaw. Town Manager Leon said he had "never heard of a downside" to a local declaration in roughly 10 prior emergencies, and the Fire Chief, serving as emergency management director, said PPE supplies were "okay at the moment" with a state cache opening the next day. Chair Christopher Houston declined to direct other committees to halt non-essential business, telling members "what's the harm" in clearing routine items like the Community Preservation Committee's March 23 hearing by video. The board deferred action on the annual town election until March 24.
