Weston Select Board cancels November Special Town Meeting over thin warrant, Delta concerns

WESTON — September 28, 2021 — Weston Select Board cancels November Special Town Meeting, hears $6.9M Brooks School pitch. The board voted 3-0 Tuesday to scrap the fall session, citing a thin warrant and Delta variant concerns; Chair Harvey said the town "would be getting pilloried for even purporting to have it." Earlier, the Elderly Housing Committee previewed a 14-unit "Building E" addition to Brooks School Apartments, estimated at $6.9 million, and a $250,000 schematic design ask going to the Community Preservation Committee on Oct. 4. Committee representative Tom said Weston has added no new elderly housing units in more than 16 years, against a 187-person waitlist and six-unit annual turnover. CPC Chair Steve Ober said community housing has received 21 percent of CPA spending life-to-date, with a projected zero ending balance in fiscal 2022.
