Weston Select Board Backs Water Tank Design, Route 30 Resurfacing, and Wetlands Bylaw

WESTON — April 25, 2023 — Weston Select Board unanimously backed three infrastructure and conservation actions at its April 25 meeting. The board, acting jointly with the Conservation Commission, approved a memorandum of understanding establishing conservation restrictions on Case Estates parcels four and five, protecting the Hillcrest Corridor viewscape with limits on planting and structures — minor language tweaks on mowing rights and plant types were delegated to the respective chairs. The board also voted to authorize the town manager to sign documents accepting a $1.6 million MassDOT interim resurfacing of Route 30, a stop-gap measure expected to last three to four years until the larger TIP project begins around 2026. A third unanimous vote endorsed the proposed wetlands protection bylaw for the upcoming annual town meeting. A separate public forum on the town's water tank replacement project drew pointed questions from residents, including Finance Committee member John Sally, who urged the board to quantify the likely impact on water rates before town meeting — noting a potential 45 to 50 percent increase — as the Select Board confirmed it will seek only $1 million in design funds from free cash at annual town meeting, with total construction costs estimated at $25 million to $35 million.
