Weston Conservation Commission Approves Native Garden, Issues Denial at Bare Hearing

WESTON — April 25, 2023 — Weston Conservation Commission approves native pollinator garden at Case Estates and signals openness to animal grazing on town land. The commission voted unanimously April 25 to approve a collaborative proposal by Susan Erickson of the Weston schools and Zoo New England conservation director Brian Windmiller to establish a roughly 1,300-square-foot native garden along Legacy Trail, featuring the endangered New England blazing star, tended annually by second-grade students. In a separate 4-0-1 vote, commissioners authorized town representatives to include language in the Parcel Four RFP for the historic Hillcrest Barn indicating the commission "would be amenable to discussing" a limited grazing license on Parcel One, with final wording subject to approval by Chair Rees Tulloss. The commission also denied a Notice of Intent for 27 Golden Ball Road after the applicant failed to appear without requesting a continuance, and member Josh Feinbloom announced he will leave Weston by June 23 — a vacancy the commission immediately asked the public to help fill ahead of the May 8 Town Meeting vote on a proposed wetlands protection bylaw.
