Weston Select Board approves road cut fee, weighs 3A housing warrant strategy

WESTON — September 24, 2024 — Weston Select Board approved a $15,000 road-cutting fee and debated a two-article 3A housing strategy ahead of a December 3 Special Town Meeting. The board voted unanimously to allow owners of 29 Sunset Road to cut the recently repaved street for gas and water connections, treating the situation as an emergency under the town's five-year pavement moratorium, which carries a $15,000 fee in the third year. Chair Lise N. Revers floated a two-article approach for the December warrant — one presenting a compliant 3A zoning bylaw and a second authorizing between $50,000 and $100,000 to contest the state mandate — while Clerk John F. McDonald raised withholding any 3A article until the SJC rules in the Milton case, with oral arguments set for October 7. Planning Board Chair Leslie Glenn said the Weston Housing Coalition pegged additional multifamily housing need at a median of 557 units, within a wide confidence interval of 141 to 973, not counting roughly 350 units from two 40B projects already in the pipeline. The board also unanimously approved a wine and malt license for Weston Provisions at 403 Boston Post Road and appointed Andrew Gallo to the Cable Advisory Committee and Anjana Bhargava to the Weston Cultural Council.
