Weston Select Board Approves National Grid School Street Gas Main Project With Summer 2026 Condition

WESTON — August 26, 2025 — Weston Select Board approves National Grid School Street gas main project, defers work to summer 2026. The board voted unanimously Tuesday to grant National Grid a location permit to replace approximately 1,805 feet of cast iron gas main dating to 1927 along School Street, conditioning approval on work beginning no earlier than the end of the school year in June 2026 to avoid disrupting the corridor's eight daily commuter bus routes. DPW Director Rich Sullivan and Town Engineer Jason Lavoie flagged the street as a major choke point and noted that state permitting for a Route 20 crossing alone could take up to three months. The board also unanimously closed the warrant for an October 15 special town meeting, authorizing adjustments totaling $483,695 to the FY26 operating budget — including $115,004 to correct a Middlesex Retirement assessment error — and placing the MBTA 3A zoning bylaw and a development agreement amendment with Boston Properties among the warrant's central articles. Weston Cultural Council applicant Colleen Lucas was appointed unanimously to a three-year term.
