Weston Select Board approves Arbor Day, previews June power program launch
WESTON — April 9, 2024 — Weston previews June launch of municipal electricity aggregation and tackles Brooke School parking. Town Manager Leon Gaumond told the Select Board on April 9 that Weston Power Choice will auto-enroll Eversource basic-service customers at about 12.85 cents per kilowatt hour — roughly 4 cents below current Eversource rates — under a 30-month First Point Power contract fixed through December 2026. Chair Lori Bent called the rollout long overdue: "It took us a long time, not due to our slowness, but rather on the state side." The board also directed the Recreation Commission and Elderly Housing Committee to jointly propose a parking allocation for the Brooke School Apartments lot before any enforcement authority is delegated, after Director Tom Timko said police "don't feel like they have authority" to act on resident-space violations. The board approved an Arbor Day proclamation 3-0 and appointed Timko as a temporary Permanent Building Committee member through June 2025.
