Weston School Committee delegates building RFQ approval to superintendent

WESTON — June 28, 2024 — Weston School Committee hands building-project RFQ approval to the superintendent and hears a sharp public comment on AP Calculus access. Member Kenneth Newberg, the committee's Permanent Building Committee liaison, told colleagues the first request for qualifications drew no firms with large secondary school experience and that scope revisions had been moving "without school involvement"; rather than wait, the committee folded a delegation of final RFQ approval to Superintendent Casey Zaleski into a 5-0 consent agenda vote. Resident Melissa Galton urged the district to add a second AP Calculus BC section, citing 24 students in the lone section, a waitlist of nine, only seven girls enrolled, and 10 rising juniors placed over seniors — a sequence she called a violation of the high school program of studies. The committee also extended a contract with vendor ArcsEd for administrative salary benchmarking and committed to a Tyler Content Manager rollout to centralize procurement records.
