Weston School Committee voted 5-0 to adopt its Table K enrollment projection for budgeting. A member who presented the report said October 1 enrollment was 2,097 students including pre-K, about 30 below last year's projection, and forecast 2,120 students next year with 148 kindergartners. Todd Witten, assistant superintendent for teaching and learning, told members that 10 of 156 grade 10 test-takers did not write an MCAS essay and five to seven more wrote essays that were off topic, and said the state is shortening the test.
A first-quarter budget update showed software and technology subscriptions about $74,000 over budget, and members heard a roughly $245,000 contingency would cover about two and a half elementary sections. The committee then went into executive session on bargaining.
