Weston School Committee approves Wee Seed grants, hears year-end fundraising report

WESTON — June 10, 2024 — Weston School Committee closes year with $214,000 in Wee Seed grants and a student climate push. Acting Superintendent Kimo Carter confirmed Sue Mairstow as the next high school principal and Lindsay Kezada as the next Field School principal following a search drawing 53 applicants between the two posts. Outgoing Wee Seed Chair Kate Dickey's year-end report, presented by member Adam, documented approximately $252,000 raised — including a $135,000-plus net from the fall fundraiser and an $88,000 winter appeal aided by a $40,000 donor match — with 470 donor households and 128 first-time donors. Graduating senior Jonathan Land told members the middle and high schools spend about $1 million on electricity annually and urged required climate coursework, saying he was "honestly never really taught about climate change in my three years at Weston." The committee approved $21,936.50 in Wee Seed grants on the consent agenda.
