Weston's Kendall Common Study Committee Eyes Smaller, Discontinuous Historic District

WESTON — June 20, 2024 — Weston's Kendall Common study committee pivots toward a possible discontinuous historic district after neighborhood outreach stalls. Meeting with only three of its members present on June 20, the Kendall Common Local Historic District Study Committee agreed to reschedule a planned neighborhood gathering to the evening of August 22, after a June event fell through when the chair was unavailable and only one neighbor responded to outreach. The committee discussed the legal possibility of forming a district as small as one house or as a collection of non-adjacent parcels, citing precedent from the outer Cape's dune-shack listings. A member identified as Rick noted that some momentum had been lost after the neighborhood was found to fall outside a relevant MBTA zoning overlay, saying the fear of that overlay had "definitely" been driving engagement. The committee's approved minutes from the prior meeting were the only formal action taken; members assigned themselves research and drafting tasks ahead of the August neighborhood session.
