Weston residents map candidate parcels for state-mandated multifamily zoning
WESTON — May 21, 2024 — Weston residents mapped candidate parcels for state-mandated 3A multifamily zoning at a Tuesday workshop. Planning Board member Leslie Glynn and Dream Collaborative consultant Diana Marsh told roughly several dozen attendees the town must rezone at least 50 acres for 750 units by a Dec. 3 town meeting deadline, with 40 percent of capacity within a half-mile of the Kendal Green, Wellesley Farms or Riverside stations. Affordable Housing Trust member Alan Joyce framed the stakes around a three-year waitlist at Brook School Apartments and employers unable to hire, citing a "diversity problem" for residents wanting to downsize in town. Across eight mapping tables, residents flagged Boston Properties, the 37-acre Campion Center, the Pope St. John XXIII Seminary, Regis College land, the Pine Brook golf course and the Great Lands lab parcel as candidates, while suggesting Stonegate, Highland Meadows and the 751 Boston Post Road 40B be folded in as "paper planning" acreage. Glynn said a full 750-unit buildout would likely require two additional police officers and one cruiser.
