Weston Rail Trail Set for October 19 Grand Opening as Punch List Nears Done

WESTON -- September 9, 2019, Weston's Rail Trail Advisory Committee set an October 19 grand opening date and began planning its own dissolution at its September 9 meeting. The committee, which has overseen construction of the three-mile Weston-to-Wayland multi-use path, confirmed construction is in its final punch-list phase, with only a Concord Road gate, Church Street concrete pours, and bike racks remaining. A sign subcommittee reported plans to mount green aluminum rules signs on existing no-parking posts at both trailheads before the opening, with a hybrid subway-style distance map to follow, both to be fabricated through Fast Signs. A memorial bench request from a resident identified as Sally Locke was tabled pending FLIRT's nonprofit formation, with the chair noting that bench slots allocated through the Weston 300 donor program are effectively filled. The chair announced he intends to step down after the October 19 opening and leave the committee by year's end, and said he plans to write to Town Manager Leon to initiate a formal hand-off of remaining responsibilities, including a pending CPA Phase 2 planting application, to the Recreation Commission, Conservation Commission, and FLIRT.
