Weston Historical Commission approves Merriam Street dormers, schedules three May hearings

WESTON — April 5, 2022 — Weston Historical Commission approved a dormer addition and processed six significance determinations at its April 5 meeting, scheduling three properties for May 3 public hearings. Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern presided as the board unanimously approved shed dormers at 242 Merriam Street and a bay window replacement at 111 Loring Road. The most detailed discussion concerned 23 Old Road, the 1902 Harold and Edith Graves House, where architect Joseph Dick presented plans to restore the home's original gambrel roofline and swale details; the board found the house significant and called it forward for public comment. At 251 Merriam Street, members questioned a proposed barrel-vault entry, with Halpern saying an arched entrance was "not really appropriate" for the cottage-style bungalow, and asked applicants to resubmit revised elevations. The commission also confirmed Community Preservation Committee approval of $306,000 for a deed restriction at 178 Boston Post Road — $300,000 for the restriction and $6,000 for preparation costs — headed to Town Meeting for a final vote.
