Weston Open Space Committee Plans Two Public Forums for Late October

WESTON — October 6, 2025 — Weston's Open Space and Recreation Study Committee set two public forums for late October after reviewing a 654-response community survey. The committee voted unanimously Monday to approve September meeting minutes before hearing a presentation from consultants on the survey's findings, which showed nearly 70 percent of respondents are satisfied with existing open space and recreation areas, while identifying trail maintenance, invasive species control, children's playgrounds, and dog-friendly areas as top priorities for improvement. The in-person forum is scheduled for Sunday, October 26, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. at the Weston Community Center, with a virtual session Monday, October 27, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. An action plan working group including Conservation Director Jordan Reidy was given a deadline of October 17 to populate a shared spreadsheet of completed, ongoing, and proposed objectives to inform forum materials. Forty-eight percent of the roughly 497 respondents who answered a maintenance-priority question cited invasive species and forest pest control as a top need, a figure members linked in part to recent town outreach around spotted lanternfly.
