Weston Historical Commission imposes demolition delay on 240 Ridgeway Road

WESTON — October 7, 2019 — Weston Historical Commission votes unanimously to impose a 12-month demolition delay on 240 Ridgeway Road. The commission, meeting October 7, had previously determined the property to be historically significant; owners Greg Wadalt of Wadalt Devine and Justin Marcu said the house no longer functions for a growing family, prompting the delay. A public hearing on 183 Ridgeway Road was continued after the commission and the project architect remained at odds over a two-and-a-half-foot front bump-out needed to accommodate an elevator and expanded foyer; commission members argued that gable fronts in the immediate neighborhood appear only on new builds, not period houses, while the architect called the detail "not an aberration to the architectural style." A former 30-year resident of 240 Ridgeway Road, Elliot Feldman, testified that two architects had independently advised a move-out of 18 to 24 months for any restoration. The commission also unanimously approved the concept of a banner-mounting system on the historic Old Library at 356 Boston Post Road, designating member Henry S. Stone, Jr. to review the exact placement with town facilities staff.
