Weston Historical Commission designates Concord Road house significant, sets fall hearing

WESTON — August 7, 2018 — Weston Historical Commission clears one project and flags another for scrutiny at August 7 meeting. The commission voted unanimously not to impose a demolition delay on a gambrel-style addition at 301 Meadowbrook Road, finding changes in keeping with the house's style. At 484 Concord Road, the commission unanimously declared the property significant under the Silver Hill National Historic District designation, triggering a formal public hearing in September over a planned rear-addition rebuild and full-frame window replacement throughout the historic main house. A third property, 54 Silver Hill Road, was postponed to September 4 after the owners were unable to attend due to a family emergency; the contractor flagged plans to replace all windows, prompting the commission to preview its preservation stance. Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern reported that the Community Preservation Committee granted $6,000 on July 16 to hire consultant Rebecca Migdal to catalog objects at the Case House, and said she would brief the Select Board on August 28. The commission also learned that owners of the circa-1904 home at 98 Love Lane, designed by architects Joseph Everett Chandler and Samuel Meade, are now considering demolition rather than the flexible subdivision previously discussed, with nearby properties selling in the $12 million to $14 million range.
