Weston Historical Commission Backs Preservation Bids on Two First-Period Houses

WESTON — September 4, 2018 — Weston Historical Commission votes to seek CPC funding placeholders for preservation restrictions on two rare first-period houses. The commission unanimously backed a placeholder application for 120 Summer Street, where appraiser John Bowman valued a restriction at $247,000, and voted to support up to $75,000 for a restriction at 71 Lexington Street — a combined potential ask of $322,000 at fall town meeting. Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern noted the CPC submission deadline is September 12. The commission also cleared two demolition-delay applications: owners of 54 Silver Hill Road withdrew a window-replacement request after deciding to restore original 1935 windows using Allied storm windows, and the commission declined to impose a delay on the 1931 Carl and Emily Eby House at 11 Highland Street, citing prior alterations and a town notification failure that left the homeowner unaware of the hearing since June. The combined preservation restriction ask would be the largest the commission has brought to town meeting, covering what members called two of Weston's four surviving first-period houses.
