Weston Historical Commission bars vinyl windows, advances Greek Revival home hearing

WESTON — July 25, 2023 — Weston Historical Commission unanimously blocked vinyl window replacements at a historically significant home while advancing a Greek Revival farmhouse expansion to a public hearing. At the July 25 meeting, Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern and member John Thompson steered the owner of 1 Woodland Road toward upgraded storm windows and professional restoration instead of Pella vinyl inserts, with the owner confirming he had already contacted a restoration specialist. The commission voted unanimously to find 76 Wellesley Street — the circa-1862 James Moore House, listed in the National Historic Register — historically significant, and scheduled a public hearing for August 22 on a proposal to raise a one-story rear wing to two stories and add a new mudroom porch; applicants Breck Bailey and architect David Slocum were asked to revise drawings addressing column style, window proportions, and a missing frieze board. A 1924 Jones Estate workers' cottage at 75 Woodchester Drive was found not significant on a 5-1 vote, clearing owner Lio Hong to proceed with window and roof work without further commission review.
