Weston Historical Commission backs depot petition, approves Silver Hill Road renovations

WESTON — September 23, 2025 — Weston Historical Commission unanimously backed a citizen petition to release $18,750 for structural and soils testing at the historic Weston Depot at its September 23 meeting. Co-Chair Phyllis Halpern called the request "a no brainer," noting the commission exists precisely to support such preservation efforts; the funds are part of a $30,000 appropriation already in town coffers, with roughly $12,000 previously spent on architectural drawings. Treasurer Adrienne Giske of the newly formed Friends of the Weston Depot said the group gathered 161 petition signatures in about two days and has a private sponsor who purchased the depot building for approximately $50,000. The commission also voted 4-0 to approve window and trim upgrades at 67 Silver Hill Road — replacing 1989 casement windows with period-appropriate Marvin double-hung units — after declaring the 1910 home historically significant, with architect Gary Wolf noting nearly all work affects post-1989 non-original construction.
