Weston governance committee opens with sweeping scope and 2025 deadline

WESTON — February 7, 2024 — Weston launches governance review with eye on Select Board size and town meeting reforms. The Town Governance Study Committee, chaired by Harvey Boshart, held its inaugural meeting Feb. 7 and set a scope that includes a peer-town review, a bylaw review, an evaluation of every town committee's structure and charge, and the question of expanding the Select Board from three to five members. Town Moderator Rip Hastings flagged remote open town meeting — now being studied in Wayland — as a live issue, while member Michael Harrity noted fewer than 100 voters typically attend out of more than 4,000 registered. Town Counsel Lauren Goldberg of KP Law will circulate governance reports from Andover, Dedham, Plymouth, Tyngsborough and other peer towns. The Select Board's charge calls for recommendations by Annual Town Meeting 2025. The next meeting is Feb. 15 at 4 p.m.
