Weston CPC sends four articles totaling $2.83 million to spring town meeting

WESTON — February 12, 2024 — Weston CPC sends roughly $2.83 million in four articles to spring town meeting. The Community Preservation Committee on Feb. 12 voted to forward a $720,000 Central Cemetery gateway restoration (6-1, Chair Glenn Butcher dissenting), a $42,000 Regional Housing Services Office contract (unanimous), a $40,000 Tree Advisory Group replanting study for the Town Green (unanimous), and a tennis court rebuild reduced from $2.1 million to $2,025,000 after the committee stripped out an approximately $74,000 conduit for future lighting (6-1, member William "Bill" Connolly dissenting). Steven Wagner pressed the lighting cut, saying "it's not cheaper if it's something you're never going to use." Parks supervisor Jackie Jackson said the 1937 cemetery gates no longer close because the pillars are leaning, and Recreation Director Chris said post-tension concrete should give the new courts a 30-year life. The committee also heard a Unified Plan Committee introduction from member Michael — the town's first comprehensive plan update since 1965.
