Weston Governance Committee Clears Report for Posting Ahead of May Town Meeting

WESTON — April 17, 2025 — Weston's Town Governance Study Committee voted unanimously to authorize Chair Harvey Boshart and member Kara Fleming to finalize and post the committee's report on Select Board size ahead of the May 5 town meeting. The six-member committee, meeting by Zoom on April 17, spent the session refining language in the draft report and debating two versions of an executive summary — a longer six-paragraph original and a shorter two-and-a-half-paragraph alternative — before delegating the final call to Boshart and Fleming, with posting targeted for April 18. Town Moderator Rip Hastings pressed the committee to make clear in all public materials that its unanimous fall vote was a finding of no compelling reason to increase from three to five members, not an affirmative endorsement of three: "We just didn't find compelling information to change," member Michael Pappone echoed. The committee also plans a letter to local publication The Owl and a final presentation rehearsal on May 1, with Hastings abstaining from the vote on the report to preserve his neutrality as moderator.
