Weston Fire Station Working Group hires Vertex, narrows site list

WESTON — April 1, 2024 — Weston's Fire Station Working Group introduces new OPM, narrows site list, confronts $20 million wastewater issue. The committee on April 1 met its newly retained owner's project manager, Vertex Companies, represented by Project Executive Jeff D'Amico, Senior Project Manager Steve Kirby and Project Manager Carly Spink. Kirby said his current Norfolk and Falmouth fire station projects are running around $950 per square foot, telling the group, "We can't guarantee that anything's going to go down." Tecton Architects walked through roughly a dozen candidate parcels — including the cemetery beside the police station, two areas on the high school campus, and a five-and-a-half-acre flat zone on the Regis College property. Select Board member Tom Palmer reported MassDEP would likely allow a new septic system at the cemetery site only with a "friendly letter" committing the town to a roughly $20 million campus-wide wastewater treatment plant. The working group meets next on April 25.
