Planning Board authorizes 121 Church Street slope remediation, defers tree decisions

WESTON — April 3, 2024 — Weston Planning Board greenlights slope restoration at 121 Church Street and previews $600,000 Route 30 design ask. Traffic and Sidewalk Chair Jay Doyle and Select Board Chair Lori Bent told the board April 3 that construction of the 3.7-mile multimodal corridor is estimated in the "mid 12 to 17 million" range and would be MassDOT-funded if Weston stays on the state TIP. Member Alicia Prime warned state funding is "very much a question mark right now" given MBTA 3A compliance posture, and the board postponed any endorsement vote to May 1. On 121 Church Street, the board voted 4-0 to allow regrading and jute-mesh seeding of the rear slope after a color-coded survey reconciled 12 trees lost since 2015; abutter Todd Bremner called the denuded slope "an eyesore and an irritant every single day" and pushed for arborist review of remaining tall pines. The 183 Conant Road teardown hearing was continued to May 1 amid Prime's call to "go back to the drawing board."
