Weston Fire Station Working Group advances South Station designs ahead of cost estimates

WESTON — March 31, 2025 — Weston's Fire Station Working Group reviewed updated designs for a new South Station and a renovation of the historic Central Station, targeting a fall 2025 Special Town Meeting for design funding. Co-Chair Tom Palmer said passage of the town's water tank project earlier in March clears the path for fire stations to be the next major capital effort, contingent on Select Board support. Tecton Architects' Rebecca Hopkins walked the group through revised floor plans featuring a full-height curtain wall training room — a design element members debated as potentially over the top — along with a menu of pricing alternates including solar carport options, door styles, and roofing systems. Jeff D'Amico of Vertex Companies confirmed the Central Station renovation is scoped as a Level 2 renovation covering roughly 25 percent of building area, with a construction start assumed for fall 2028 after a new South Station is operational. Reconciled cost estimates from two independent estimators are expected at the group's April 14 meeting, and a one-page summary flyer is planned for distribution at the May 5 Annual Town Meeting.
