Weston CPC Unanimously Elects Glenn Butcher as New Chair

WESTON — June 26, 2023 — Weston's Community Preservation Commission voted 6-0 to elect Glenn Butcher as its new chair, replacing outgoing chair Steve Wagner at a June 26 transition meeting. Town Manager Rip Hastings attended to discuss three at-large vacancies he must fill by appointment, saying response to public solicitations has been "minimal" and asking members to help recruit younger candidates. Wagner offered an unusually candid account of the commission's decade-long tensions with the Finance Committee, stemming from a 2013-2014 surcharge-reduction fight, while Finance Committee liaison Barath Davuluri urged more dialogue and said the current committee is not unanimous in its criticisms. Butcher, who cited budget management experience at global corporations, said he is willing to serve and open to supporting a better-qualified candidate if one emerges. The commission set a September 12 application deadline for a fall cycle that may include an athletic field lighting project at the high school and a potentially complex application from the land trust Landsake involving new construction and unresolved CPA eligibility questions.
