Weston CPC recommends five projects totaling nearly $2 million for town meeting

WESTON — March 22, 2021 — Weston CPC sends five projects totaling $1.95 million to May town meeting. The Community Preservation Committee on March 22 recommended $1,020,000 for a Weston Affordable Housing Foundation duplex replacing two donated houses at 8-10 Birch Lane, $400,000 for an Ash Street walkway closing the gap to the Case Estates trail, $75,000 for rehabilitation of five Burchard Park ball fields, $38,000 for Regional Housing Services Office staff support, and $3,250 to preserve a rare butternut and a storm-damaged persimmon at the Case Estates. The Ash Street vote was 6-1, with member Nina opposing over the planned removal of a 17-inch pine and possibly a black oak on what she called a "truly wild street" with closed canopy. Traffic and Sidewalk Committee Chair Jay Doyle said only one or two healthy trees would come down across 1,500 feet; the approval was conditioned on documenting any removed trees by species, diameter, height and photo. WAFI President Peter Endicott told abutters the foundation has "no intention" of rushing a second project on the parcel's undeveloped back lot.
