Weston consultant advances Route 30 design with shared-use path, two new signals

WESTON — October 23, 2019 — Weston consultant unveils Route 30 corridor with shared-use path and new Winter, Oak signals. Bridget Myers of Howard Stein Hudson walked the Traffic and Sidewalk Committee through a design featuring 11-foot travel lanes, 3-foot shoulders, a 10-foot shared-use path on the south side, and a pedestrian hybrid beacon at the Ash Street fire station. New signals at Winter Street and Oak Street are justified by three-year crash totals of 16 and 13 respectively, and by MassDOT's pending Healthy Transportation Policy revisions, which require greater bike-vehicle separation on roads above 40 mph and 10,000 vehicles per day. Chair Jay Doyle said construction is unlikely before 2023 and depends on Boston Region MPO programming. Love Lane residents separately pressed the committee for cut-through relief, describing "20- to 30-car queues" they attribute to Waze routing.
