Weston Planning Board Unanimously Denies Highland Street Fence, Orders Removal

WESTON — October 16, 2019 — Weston Planning Board unanimously denies Highland Street fence, approves two Hidden Road home permits. The board voted 5-0 on October 16 to reject both the as-built and modified versions of a roughly 250-foot cedar stockade fence at 75 Highland Street, built without approval along a town-designated scenic road. Landscape consultant Kim said the board "very rarely approves fencing unless it's for code issues around walls" and testified the site was "much more open" than when the project was first reviewed. Neighbors from 14 Black Oak Road and 240 Highland Street — the latter, Ann Weedy, a resident of nearly 40 years on the street — told the board the fence was commercial in appearance and would set a damaging precedent on one of Weston's most rural corridors. The board separately approved certificates of action for neighboring homes at 45 Hidden Road (6,943 square feet, 78 trees removed, 90 planted) and 55 Hidden Road, both unanimously, while flagging a need for a joint construction management review with Building Inspector John Field before either project breaks ground.
