Weston Conservation Commission Issues Enforcement Order, Approves Pond Algae Treatment

WESTON — May 23, 2023 — Weston Conservation Commission ratifies enforcement order, approves pond algaecide program, and continues septic hearing at busy May 23 meeting. The commission, chaired by Rees Tulloss, voted unanimously to issue a certificate of compliance for 69 Scotch Pine Road and ratified an enforcement order for 266 North Avenue, where consultant Mitch of Goddard Consulting presented a nine-step restoration plan to remediate unauthorized fill within the 25-foot no-disturb zone, including native hydroseeding and five hop hornbeam plantings. A 3-0-1 vote closed the hearing and issued an order of conditions for a multi-year algaecide program on the shared pond at 6 and 10 Bass Pond Lane, where Emily Volgamore of Solitude Lake Management cited significant spirogyra growth and the risk of eventual cyanobacteria blooms. The commission also approved a wooden commemorative bench on Forbes conservation land honoring Nancy Bates and Biz Painter of the Weston Garden Club, and continued a septic replacement hearing at 27 Golden Ball Road to June 6 pending stormwater review.
