Weston Conservation Commission Defers Water Tank Site Vote Pending Abutter Review

WESTON — December 19, 2023 — Weston Conservation Commission defers vote on 4.35-acre Article 97 land transfer needed for three new water storage tanks. Chair Rees Tulloss steered the commission away from endorsing Wright Pierce's recommended sites at Paines Hill, Cat Rock, and Doublet Hill after abutters — including Michael Chasen of 111 Bradford Road and Tom Seaman of 100 Highland Street — raised questions about engineering alternatives and access road impacts at the December 19 meeting. Attorney Daniel Hill, representing Chasen, said a civil engineer was already examining a potential third Cat Rock site that could require less tree clearing and a smaller tower. Tulloss directed all parties to the Select Board's January 9 meeting and scheduled a formal commission hearing for January 23. In a separate 4-1 vote, the commission retained Professional Services Contractor as stormwater peer reviewer for a 40B project at 510-518-540 South Avenue, rejecting an applicant conflict-of-interest challenge argued by Nutter attorney Sarah Toronto Flores.
