Weston Conservation Commission declines to reopen Cat Rock water tank land swap

WESTON — March 11, 2025 — Weston Conservation Commission refuses to revisit its Cat Rock water tank land swap vote. At the March 11 meeting, resident Michael Chasen and land-use attorney Dan Hill urged the commission to delay or reverse its earlier support for a Select Board proposal to use 1.7 acres of Article 97 conservation land at Cat Rock for a new 97-foot water storage tank, arguing the site was never properly evaluated and that an alternative next to the existing tank — studied by engineering firm Tetra Tech — would meet all siting needs with no permanent impact to protected land. Chair Rees Tulloss held firm, saying the commission had acted on guidance from the town's own attorney and that site selection is not the body's purview: "I have heard nothing to make me second guess what we have done." The commission also unanimously closed two long-deferred certificates of compliance — one for 185 Winter Street under a 2013 enforcement order and one for 133 Boston Post Road under a December 2000 order — and approved buffer-zone determinations for residential projects at 31 Circle Drive and 115 Country Drive.
