Weston Conservation Commission Continues DCR Rail Trail Permit to June

WESTON — May 9, 2023 — Weston Conservation Commission continues DCR rail trail NOI and issues three Pierce Pond permit corrections. The commission voted 6-0 at its May 9 meeting to continue a Notice of Intent from the state Department of Conservation and Recreation for a half-mile Mass Central Rail Trail extension that would rehabilitate the 133-year-old iron truss bridge over Stony Brook, with the hearing rescheduled to June 6 to allow local stormwater review and DCR counsel review of a draft order of conditions; the project would add a net 4,600 square feet of impervious surface offset by infiltration. In a separate administrative matter, commissioners took three successive votes to untangle a permitting error at Pierce Pond, issuing a partial certificate of compliance, a corrected order of conditions, and a corrected extension to September 16, 2025, replacing the original applicant William Williams II with current proponent William Numa under DEP file 337-989. The commission also directed staff to negotiate placement of Board of Health-funded sunscreen dispensers at four conservation trailheads, insisting they be affixed to existing kiosks without freestanding poles or large signage, under a two-year grant running through summer 2024.
