Weston Conservation Commission backs Fitchburg rail trail feasibility study unanimously

WESTON — May 27, 2025 — Weston Conservation Commission unanimously endorses a feasibility study for a rail-with-trail path along the Fitchburg commuter line. The five-member quorum, chaired by Rees Tulloss, voted to authorize Conservation Agent Jordan to draft a letter of support committing the commission to a stakeholder role in the planning process after a presentation by Linda Nelson and Robert Cronin, representatives of a working group spanning Weston, Lincoln, and Concord, with Acton also expressing interest. Nelson told the commission that Massachusetts Planning Office representative Kyle Stiglio has indicated Community Transportation Technical Assistance program funding could be available for the study if all three core towns sign on, though she cautioned that MPO resources could dry up and Community Preservation Act funding might be needed as a fallback. The commission also approved certificates of compliance for 225 Winter Street and Weston High School's tennis court improvements, closed the stormwater hearing for a Concord Road addition by applicant Jeb Blatt, and directed staff to issue a formal enforcement order against a Polly Log Lane homeowner for unpermitted vegetation removal within a 25-foot no-disturb zone adjacent to a pond, with a restoration plan due before the commission by June 24.
